Dream Come True

New French Home

Since my childhood days camping in France with my family, I have always had an affinity with the French way of life. It has lead to countless holidays and brief spells living and working in various regions of France.  But until now, actually having a little bolt-hole of my own has only been a dream…….so you can imagine my excitement when my husband and I decided to make the dream a reality and purchase our own little pad in the South of France a few weeks ago!

It’s not quite the palatial gite with swimming pool and garden full of lavender I had been hoping for, but you know what, when I sat on the roof terrace of my several hundred year old village house in December sunshine eating salad and drinking red wine, I didn’t give the gite with the pool a second thought!  I counted my blessings for being so fortunate that I can experience the French way of life I have been dreaming of now at this stage in my life.

I know I’m easily amused but I can’t wait to dander down to the village boulangerie for my baguette in the morning!  And I’m so excited about wandering round the local outdoor market to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and meat.  I look forward to barbecues and dining outdoors and watching the world go by at a street cafe.  I’ll stop for a proper lunch.  I’ll absorb everything French around me, people talking, TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, advertising, sign-posts!  As mentioned in a previous post Simply….why I love France!, there are many things about the French culture that I will soak up during my visits to my new home in the Languedoc.

French Antique Fairs

And of course as I have already started with French Vintage Vie, I look forward to scouring antique fairs, brocantes and vide-greniers for beautiful French furniture and gorgeous vintage treasures.  Needless to say we have picked a prime location with antique fairs and dealers on our doorstep, perfect for finding the best antique furniture and vintage decor.  I’ll also continue to photograph my favourite places and architecture and share French interiors inspiration with you as I travel.

France & Ireland

I’m not about to up sticks and leave rainy Ireland just yet!  I’m going to enjoy the best of both worlds and keep one foot firmly on Irish soil.  My next trip to France is early March where I hope to find some new beautiful and quirky pieces for the interiors home-store in Belfast.  Drop me an email if you are looking for anything for your home or business.  And don’t worry if you can’t make it to Belfast, as I can ship worldwide.

I might just have to search for some fabulous furniture for myself too…..after all, I now have a whole new exciting project of designing and decorating my little French pad!  So it would seem, dreams do come true, what’s yours?

Congratulations on your new French pad! Love your shop, and wish you the very best in your new venture. Am based in Brittany and have just started an on-line business selling some of the treasures I find in local markets and vides – I love it here! If you have any questions about living in France and I can help drop me a line.
